As there have been a number of questions from our members on what Personal Leave time is and on how to use it, we have put together this explanation.
Amount of Personal Leave Time Available:
In January of each calendar year, you will begin the year with 40 hours of Personal Leave time. This time is in addition and separate from all other types of paid leave time (including vacation, sick, etc.).
Definition of Personal Leave Time:
Personal Leave time is defined as any event requiring a member’s immediate attention. It does not require your supervisor’s approval. You do not need to even tell your supervisor the reason you are taking such time. The event that requires your immediate attention is entirely up to you.
Value of Personal Leave Time:
There is only value in Personal Leave time if you actually use it. You may not “cash-out” this time under any circumstances. If you do not use this time within the calendar year in which it is earned, you will lose all such unused time as it cannot be carried forward to the next year.
Notification to Your Supervisor to Use Personal Leave Time:
You shall notify your supervisor that you will be using Personal Leave time on the day you will be using it. However, nothing prevents you from notifying your supervisor earlier than the day you will be using such time off.
